Since August, Nate Benedetto and I have been working to expand URBANIST's presence on the web in order to keep all our finest neighbors and tourists up to date on the urban San Diego scene.

We recently welcomed two additions to the team, and it has been fun to plan the path we're forging together as a new year unfolds. 2012 is lining up to be our best year yet. Helena Bristow joined us in November as our Calendar Editor. Check out the highlights each week in our new feature, This Weekend and Beyond. Columnist Ian Kraft just introduced his Sip of the Week, as well as his monthly Sophisticated Imbiber column, featuring interviews with figures contributing to high-end drinking, as well as advice to help us all become more sophisticated ourselves. And two new recurring interviews – In the Beginning and Out of the Kitchen – are joining veterans Besides the Weather and 3 Meals & A Bar to ensure regular visits with San Diegans who keep this city thriving.

We’re also excited to announce that more URBANIST events are on the horizon! Expect to see Urban Dish and Sophisticated Imbiber events as the year progresses. And this February, we’re launching a monthly creative grants series, presented with wishproject.me, called Pizza Parlay, in which people like you can submit proposals to your peers for the chance to earn funding to take your project to the next level!

To help you keep up, our newsletters are now going out weekly, so visit the right column of our homepage to subscribe. This ensures you'll also receive invitations to all our events.

We look forward to a year of bringing you more content; continuing to support our local businesses, organizations and talent; and saying hello to you over a nice meal, a piece of pizza or a cocktail!
