Urban Art: Sneak Peek of Survey Select

They opened the doors for the summer-long exhibit tonight at the Wonderbread Factory, a 4,000 foot space transformed into a museum located in the East Village. Inside were pieces from 65 world wide fine artists, curated by Mark Murphy. This exhibit focuses on the narrative art, through painting, sculpture, film and story, unadulterated and uncensored.

Survey Select takes its key notes from the fine art salons of that started in the 1920s. What’s that mean? A free thinking batch of artists and cultural investigators getting together in a series of classes and discussions, viewing paintings, films, and music together. Art minus intellectual labeling equals Survey Select.

Come on down, admission is free to take in the gallery. Check out their schedule here. Low cost and high value classes on spray art and zine making, lectures on artist as a brand, film series, and bands. Who knows what the end result Survey Select will have on San Diego? The sky's the limit. There is so much going on with San Diego taking its place in the international art community and no doubt this exhibit will put another notch in this city's belt. Plus, now I'll have a few hand made zines on my coffee table and a couple more spray cans hiding in a backpack, armed with the know how and the inspiration to do some damage.

Survey Select is at: Wonder Bread Factory: 1440 Imperial Ave (14th & Imperial) San Diego, CA
