Sessions Public in Ocean Beach will have a grand opening next week but they have been quietly opened for two weeks. They quietly started serving lunch this Saturday. I was there, sipping an amber ale and chewing on a bacon lollipop. Yes. I just said that.
Sessions Public is a relaxed and comfortable beach bar with a mini urban feel. The design incorporates a lot of wood, glass, chalkboard and very cool bright orange chairs. It is the kind of place you want to relax with a good beer (the only type they serve) and stay for a while.
I met owner Abel Kaase on Saturday and got to talk to this Ocean Beach native about his first restaurant. If you ask him to describe the menu, he might offer to read it to you but he won’t offer one word (or even a hyphenated string of words ending with “fusion”) that describes it. The food is just what he likes. I liked it too.
For our lunch, my friend and I split the tempura battered bacon lollipops, a beet and goat cheese small plate and a portobello mushroom sandwich (bread was from Can Pan in Point Loma). I was too full for dessert, which I regret very much. Next time, if I am thinking clearly, I’ll save some space for a beignets with chocolate sauce.
Outdoor signs and the website are still under construction but they will be up soon. Check their website soon for tips on parking, which you may need.
