Vice Magazine's Party Brings the Ruckus

by | 9.12.2009

San Diego needs to see more of this dude and his killer 'stache.

In addition to producing a superior rag, Vice Magazine knows how to throw a proper party.  Last night San Diego's new 'it' club Voyeur is where you wanted to be, especially if you are cash-strapped right now like me.

Free (no cover)
Free tequila drinks from 9-10 (we had 5 margaritas thank you very much),
Free temporary tattoos (whatever, they made us laugh)
Free photo booth

The party was kicked off with L.A.'s pro skateboarder turned DJ Patrick Melcher on the decks. Spinning tunes from the 60's and 70's...This was seriously one of my favorite DJ sets I've ever heard in S.D.   Patrick mentioned he'd try to play a few shows at San Diego's Beauty Bar over the last few years but San Diegans "didn't get it." Shame on you San Diego.

The music took a drastic and horrible turn when DJ Dadon took over.  Thumping, fist-pumping trance-house that made me feel like I stepped back to 2001 Las Vegas, or maybe just 2009 Stingaree. Unfortunately this garbage was more recognizable than Melchers to party goers, they could finally get their "grind on."   I'm guessing (hoping) Vice didn't have control over the 2nd DJ slot...but it made me wonder??

Third verse same as the first...The saving grace of the party, headlining DJ bay area legend Chris Manak, aka Peanut Butter Wolf took over the decks shortly after Dadon...phew.  It was painful watching him try to play to the crowd's tastes while inserting some quality hip-hop. PBW's cred level is pushing a 10 when it comes to good beats. He did not receive the crowd recognition a highly acclaimed DJ, producer and founder of Stones Throw Records deserves, but he dropped the beats nonetheless.

Overall cheers to Vice on another successful bash, party on Wayne.
